A puppy's first grooming experience shapes how they feel about grooming for life. Mobile grooming means your puppy stays in their safe, familiar environment with no scary car rides, no barking dogs in a salon and no overwhelming new smells. Just a calm, positive first experience at home.
Puppies can have their first grooming experience from about 10 to 12 weeks old, once they have had their initial vaccinations. The earlier you introduce grooming, the more comfortable your puppy will be with it throughout their life. We keep the first session very gentle and short.
We keep it simple and positive. Your puppy gets a gentle introduction to grooming tools and sounds, a mini bath with warm water and gentle shampoo, a soft brush, a nail tip trim, and lots of treats and praise throughout. The whole session is kept to 20 to 30 minutes maximum.
Some nervousness is normal, but we go at your puppy's pace and use positive reinforcement throughout. Because we come to your home, your puppy is already in a familiar, safe environment, which makes a big difference. Most puppies are curious and settle quickly once they realise it is a positive experience.
We use treats, gentle praise and patience. We introduce each tool slowly, letting the puppy sniff and investigate. We never force anything. If a puppy is overwhelmed, we take a break. The goal is for your puppy to associate grooming with good things, not stress.
After the first introductory groom, we recommend bringing your puppy for a grooming session every 4 to 6 weeks. Regular early grooming builds familiarity and makes each session easier. Even if your puppy does not need a full groom yet, regular handling and brushing is valuable.
